Surfboard, a workplace software platform for the customer service industry, has raised $5m (£4.2m) in a seed funding round.
London-based Surfboard was founded in 2021 with the goal of developing software solutions to replace legacy workplace management systems.
Surfboard’s collaborative planning software was created with hybrid and remote work in mind, due to their prevalence in the customer service industry.
Founder of Surfboard, Natasha Ratanshi-Stein, said that this move to remote work caused companies to fall “into the trap of invasively tracking and monitoring their teams”.
Ratanshi-Stein said that Surfboard wants to redefine “how teams work together through increased transparency, fair scheduling, and collaborative team planning”.
The company claims its all-in-one platform can eliminate the need to manage workflow across countless other software products for HR, calendars, messaging, and spreadsheets.
The startup has stressed the importance of the collaborative nature of its software, which allows staff members to adjust schedules “based on changes to demand or availability”.
The investment round was led by Speedinvest and featured participation from Fly Ventures, Seedcamp, Tokyo Black, Nomad Capital, Jag Singh, and Foreword VC.
“I’ve seen first-hand the demoralising effect that the existing set of workforce management platforms, including spreadsheets, has on support teams at a human level,” said Speedinvest partner Deepali Nangia.
Seedcamp managing partner Reshma Sohoni added: “[Surfboard’s] timely solution, relentless focus on their ‘surfers’ well-being and customer satisfaction, as well as their long-term vision, will supercharge Customer Support and Success in a more collaborative and efficient way to the benefit of all parties involved.”
