UK’s Stacker bags £14.6M to help companies build applications without coding

Technology is becoming more accessible, more intuitive, and cheaper. However, software creation still remains resource-intensive and inefficient.

This is because numerous companies still rely on traditional development models that require coding, lengthy review processes, and access to expert developers.

As an alternative, companies are adopting no-code development, a different approach that enables software creation that does not require coding. Numerous companies are aiming to bring this no-code concept to the next level.

Secured $20M

One such company is London-based Stacker. Recently, the UK company has raised a $20 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from existing investors Initialized Capital, Y Combinator, and Pentech.

Stacker is on a mission to change how software is made and to enable a million teams to create the software they need without writing code.

“Nearly everyone uses a few common tools for their work — email, spreadsheets, and instant messaging. In the future, everyone will also have a platform where they create and run the custom software that powers their business. We’re building that platform today,” says Michael Skelly, CEO, and co-founder of Stacker.

How will the funding be used?

The company will be using the funds to accelerate the growth of the platform and its team. At present, the company employs around 19 people and aims to hire at least 30-40 by the end of the year.

“We’ll also be investing in our product to give you new ways to display and interact with that data to allow you to achieve more with Stacker,” says the company in the press release.

No-code software creation platform

Founded by Kenrick Vaz, Louis Barclay, Michael Skelly, Neil Coutinho, and Sam Davyson, Stacker is a no-code software creation platform that develops an application to help developers build software.

It also offers application development through clever spreadsheets, animated slide decks, and email filters that enable developers to build their own software from scratch.

Over the past year, Stacker gained thousands of customers, quadrupled its revenue and user base, and grown the team. Numerous companies including Samsung, Audible, Adobe, and Mozilla use Stacker’s solution to create apps powered by their own data.

“We’ve been watching the no-code space for a while, and Stacker stands apart from the rest because of its thoughtful product approach, allowing business operators to instantly generate a functional app that perfectly fits existing business processes. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Stacker on their mission to create the future of software,” says Jennifer Li, Partner at Andreessen Horowitz.

“Right now, every business is either running on off-the-shelf software that doesn’t fit their needs or on custom software that IT made years ago and never updated. It’s 2021: teams need to create their own software,” says Sam Davyson, CTO and co-founder of Stacker.

The company is also hiring for a huge number of roles across product, engineering, marketing, and operations.
