Britain is set to move further towards ‘the new normal’ as offices and public spaces continue to gradually reopen. London-based phone charging startup Joos, referred to as the ‘Santander bikes of phone batteries’, is set to capitalise on society’s reopening. They have secured a host of partnerships with an aim to scale their ‘charge on the move’ solution rapidly across the country.
New locations unlocked
The London-based tech startup has used Spring 2021 to launch at the UK’s busiest and popular retail sites. Their recent rollout includes the UK portfolio of Hammerson shopping centres, as well as centres operated by Ellandi, Savills and a number of those previously operated by intu. Other centres where you can now charge on the move with Joos include The Bullring & Grand Central, Metrocentre and The Trafford Centre. In addition, Joos stations are now also installed at the Liverpool airport, with further rollouts expected to follow next month as the transport and travel sectors continue to reopen.
How does it work?
Basically, Joos allows people to charge on the move and never get slowed down whilst waiting next to a locker or to plug into a wall socket. One can simply register for the service, download the app, find the nearest Joos venue and they will be able to pick up a fully charged powerbank to charge their devices on the go. Subsequently, they can return it to any Joos venue in the network.
Ensuring a safer experience
It’s no surprise that people may be sceptical towards shared services, be it cabs, restaurants or even phone chargers, post-pandemic. The increased onus on safety falls upon the service providers. With this firmly in mind, Joos has built their product with several anti-covid protections.
Their power banks have been built with medical-grade Covid-19 safety measures which are fully embedded as a standard, ensuring any risk of viral contraction is minimised as much as possible to protect customers.
In addition, the startup’s stations feature protective slots, which shield their power banks from airborne bacteria and germs. Once a customer drops off a power bank, it is locked and quarantined until enough time has passed to break down any viral agents present. Additionally, Joos has increased the maintenance and cleaning of their power banks and stations across the country, offering free hand sanitisers across their venues.
Apple Approved
Further, power banks provided by Joos are MFi Apple-approved. “We are the only Apple-certified provider of shared power banks operating in the West. Across Europe, North America and the UK, all of our competitors are, essentially, infringing on Apple’s IP rights,” Josh Baah, one of the company’s co-founders, told UKTN in a previous interview.
The power banks come with cables for every smartphone on the market, ensuring safe and reliable charging for everyone.
