Why Skyscanner founder lead Craft Doc’s $8M Series A along with Creandum

Hungary-based Craft Docs, a writing tool that was launched late last year has recently secured $8 million (nearly £5.8 million) Series A funding. The funding was led by leading European early-stage investor Creandum, who was also behind tech companies including Spotify, Klarna, and Kahoot.

Gareth Williams also lead the round

Further, the investment also came from London’s InReach Ventures and Gareth Williams, former CEO and co-founder of Skyscanner.

The fresh capital will enable Craft to accelerate its product development, focusing on integrations, APIs, and a browser-based product alongside the native apps. Further, UKTN has learnt that the company has also plans to expand their team from only Hungary base to London soon.

Craft positions itself as a creative tool for thinkers – helping them to create, structure, and collaborate on content across devices. The company was founded by Balint Orosz in 2019, who was previously responsible for Skyscanner’s mobile strategy after the company acquired his previous company, Distinction.

Balint Orosz, CEO and Founder of Craft, said: “Our vision with Craft is for teams and individuals to be able to bring ideas together in one place, on any device, so they can better understand, structure, share, and collaborate. So far, we’ve focused on building the editor that enables this but with the help of the new funding, we can accelerate and continue building the last missing parts – deep integrations and connections to other systems so you can push or pull data easily.”

Fredrik Cassel, General Partner at Creandum, stated: “Since our first discussions we’ve been impressed by both the amount of love users have for Craft, as well as the team’s unique ability to create a product that is beautiful and powerful at the same time. The upcoming features around connectivity and data accessibility truly set Craft apart from the competition and we’re thrilled to accompany the team on this journey.”

Roberto Bonazinga, Co-founder at InReach Ventures, added: “We invested in Craft on day zero because we were fascinated by the clarity and the boldness of Balint’s vision – to reinvent how millions of people can structure their thoughts and write them down in the most effective and beautiful way. To be able to support Balint and his team on their journey to building a delightful consumer experience is what we strive for at InReach.”

More products coming in 2021

Within a few months of its launch, Craft Docs has witnessed rapid adoption and a surge in the number of users. Currently, the Craft Docs app is available on iOS, iPadOS and MacOS and is expected to launch APIs, a browser-based editor and extended integrations in 2021.
